The long lines on the sides of a breadboard are commonly used to distribute positive voltage and ground across the circuit. Some breadboards have a break in the middle of these rails, which means the two sides are not automatically connected. In the video, point to the positive and negative markings, test the rail using continuity mode, and show how a jumper wire can connect two separated sections when needed.
