How to Identify Capacitor Polarity
A simple explanation of how to recognize the positive and negative sides of an electrolytic capacitor.

This note will include a short practical video explanation.WRITTEN NOTE
Electrolytic capacitors are polarized, which means they must be connected in the correct direction. The negative side is usually marked with a stripe containing minus symbols, while a new capacitor often has a longer positive lead. Installing it backwards can damage the capacitor and may cause it to fail. In the video, show the stripe, compare the lead lengths, and point to the positive and negative markings on a circuit board before placing the component.
